Dr. Rizanna Rosemary from PRISB USK delivering a lecture on tobacco control in disaster mitigation.

Yogyakarta, October 14, 2023 – In a thought-provoking event, the Research Center for Social and Cultural Studies (PRISB) teamed up with the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) to host a talk show. The event, which took place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, delved into the pressing topic of “The Urgency of Tobacco Control in Disaster Mitigation.” The talk show was held at the FKM UAD campus.

One of the esteemed speakers at the talk show was PRISB researcher, Dr. Rizanna Rosemary. The event shed light on the intricate connection between tobacco control and disaster mitigation. Tobacco control is defined as the efforts to reduce smoking, which has significant implications for both public health and the local economy.

The discussion unveiled the interplay between tobacco control and disaster mitigation, revealing its unique set of challenges. These challenges primarily stem from the differing focuses of these two realms, resulting in limited research on their intersection and the lack of sufficient government support. To safeguard public health effectively, it is crucial for all stakeholders, particularly government authorities, to work cohesively with researchers to address this issue.
